New program seeks to help St. Louis inmates re-enter society
ST. LOUIS (AP) - The city of St. Louis is launching a new effort to help jail inmates become productive in society once they get back into the community.
A pilot program that will be detailed on Tuesday will provide state and private funds to help connect 130 inmates to either jobs or classes at Ranken Technical College.
The program is for inmates ages 17 to 24 incarcerated at the Medium Security Institution. Once released, they'll get training in financial literacy and will be connected with social service agencies to help find a pathway to a constructive life.
