New shopping procedures help tame Black Friday
COLUMBIA – Black Friday got an early start this year in Missouri and across the nation.
Many companies, such as Wal-Mart, started deals as early as 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The Wal-Mart on Grindstone in Columbia was open all day to customers with deals kicking in at 6:00 p.m. At that point most on-sale items became first come, first served, but larger items, such as TVs, required a reservation wristband given to earlier customers.
One customer, Robert Fergile, said he liked the new system.
“I heard horror stories about it being crazy, but we haven’t had any of that today,” Fergile said.
Deals at the Wal-Mart this year included $50 savings on iPhones and 55” TVs for under $300. While some people do not think the Black Friday chaos is worth the savings, Fergile said he loves it and saved about $200.
“With the TV we got alone, we probably saved about $100,” he said.
