Nixon Announces New Jobs to Mexico, Mo.
MEXICO - Governor Jay Nixon announced Tuesday Spartan Light Metal Products in Mexico, Mo. is expanding and will create new jobs.
Spartan Light Metal Products is a supply manufacturer that specializes in aluminum and magnesium custom die castings. It provides products for larger companies such as Ford, GM, Volkswagen and Toyota.
The expansion will add two new production lines and create 42 jobs in the next five years.
Mexico resident Kristin Bushnell said she was skeptical that the plant would provide enough jobs, but thought it would be great if it could. Bushnell also said she hopes other manufacturing plants in Mexico would follow Spartan Light Metal Products' lead.
Director of Economic Development Russell Runge said multiple businesses within the town have expanded in the last 6 to 8 months. Expanding companies in the area include Dawn Foods, Wilderness Logistics, and True Manufacturing; which is right across the street from Spartan Light Metal Products.
According to missourieconomy.org, unemployment has increased in Audrain County in the last two months. Despite the statistics, Nixon seemed optimistic in economic incentive programs and expanding manufactures.
Nixon said Missouri has created more than 24,000 new jobs so far in 2012.
