Nixon Asks Feds For Damage Assessments On Farms
JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Nixon asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Monday to begin assessing the damage to farms affected by floods and severe storms in 56 counties, including five mid-Missouri counties.
In a statement, Nixon's office says the request is "the first step in the process of declaring counties as primary disaster areas," allowing eligible farmers to apply for federal aid.
A primary disaster county is one where either estimated yields of a single crop or individual farmers' production totals drop by at least 30 percent following a disaster.
