Nixon, Obama to Attend Joplin Memorial Service
JOPLIN - A memorial service for the victims of the Joplin tornado is planned for Sunday at 2 p.m. Governor Jay Nixon and President Barack Obama plan to attend to event in the Taylor Performing Arts Center on the Missouri Southern State University campus. MSSU has been the center for volunteer coordination as the city tries to clean up and recover from the tornado that has now claimed at least 139 lives.
The service will include remarks from Nixon and Obama along with members of local clergy. It will also include music, scripture reading and prayer. Nixon announced Sunday is a day of prayer across the state of Missouri in honor of tornado victims.
