Nixon says he is close to announcing new State Auditor
JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Jay Nixon announced Friday he is in "the final stages" of choosing a State Auditor to replace the late Tom Schweich.
Schweich died of an apparent suicide Feb. 26 in his home near St. Louis.
Nixon said a name of the next State Auditor would be announced soon. John Watson has been serving as interim State Auditor since Schweich's death.
Nixon announced the development during a news conference in which he also discussed a big revenue release toward education and his veto of a bill that would have prohibited former school district superintendents from serving on school boards.
