JEFFERSON CITY - Governor Nixon will sign a bill in Springfield to protect seniors from financial exploitation this morning.
Under the current law, any person who purposely causes serious injury to an elderly person can be charged with second degree elder abuse. The law does not currently cover financial injury.
The new bill would add financial exploitation to the list of crimes that be committed against senior citizens.
Nixon will sign the legislation during a visit to the South Side senior center in Springfield. He will then head to St. Louis.
