Nixon Will Not Advise On Ethics
JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - Attorney General Jay Nixon says a conflict of interest will prevent him from advising the Missouri Ethics Commission on how to enforce a ruling on campaign contributions. Monday, the Missouri Supreme Court said the commission will have to decide whether candidates have to refund money they raised earlier this year that exceeded contribution limits. Nixon represented the Ethics Commission before the Supreme Court. He says he can not advise the commission because he is a candidate for governor, and thus might have to refund campaign money. Missouri Republican Party spokesman Paul Sloca says Nixon shouldn't have represented the commission if he thought he had a conflict of interest.
