No. 15 Mizzou softball opens series with win over No. 3 LSU
COLUMBIA - The No. 15 Mizzou softball team opened up a three-game series with No. 3 LSU on Saturday with a 7-2 win. MU improves to 34-10 on the year and 12-7 in the SEC. Freshman pitcher Paige Lowary got the win for MU and pitched the entire game. She allowed just four hits and two runs while striking out nine batters to improve to 16-3 on the season.
LSU took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the third inning, including a home-run from Kellsi Kloss but MU would respond. Senior Corrin Genovese helped the Tigers answer with a two-run home-run over the right centerfield wall to tie the game at 2-2. In the next inning, Mizzou freshman Amanda Sanchez hit a two-run home-run of her own to left, giving MU a 4-2 lead. MU would then add three runs in the bottom of the fifth with the help of four walks and a wild pitch from LSU.
Mizzou has now won 10 of its last 11 games, including nine straight. MU will look to continue the streak at 3:00 p.m. CT on Sunday at University Field. The game will also be available on SEC Network+.
Coach Earleywine said sophomore Tori Finucane is expected to pitch on Sunday, returning to the mound for the first time since Mizzou catcher Kristen Mack slid into her during Wednesday's game. Since the collision, Finucane has been seen warming up but still has yet to return to play in a game.
