No. 20 Mizzou baseball evens series with Tennessee
KNOXVILLE, Tennessee - The No. 20 Mizzou baseball team evened the series with a 8-3 win over Tennessee on Friday night. The Tigers move to 23-12 on the year and 9-5 in SEC Play.
Reigning SEC Pitcher of the Week freshman Tanner Houck took the mound for Mizzou. Tennessee took an early 2-0 lead but in the fifth inning sophomore catcher Jack Klages hit a bases-loaded double to right center to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. Sophomore outfielder Jake Ring also hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 6-2. Mizzou would add two more runs: one in the sixth inning and one in the ninth inning.
Houck picked up the win for Mizzou, improving to 6-1 on the season. Junior Breckin Williams picked up the save, his eighth this year.
Mizzou and Tennessee will face-off in the rubber game of the series on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT on the SEC Network.
