COLUMBIA - Workers put signs up Tuesday in the North Village neighborhood of Columbia, part of a six-month pilot program offering home owners and renters an opportunity to obtain a parking permit to park in designated areas on St James Street, St Joseph Street and Ash Street.
After months of collaboration with the city and the residents of this area, the program is in the early stages. The first step is the installation of the street signs. Then, until February 19, the city will enforce permit parking in the area with warnings. Then on February 20, the permits will be fully enforced by the city parking department.
Another addition to the streets of North Village will be more parking meters in some areas along St James Street and St Joseph.
The pilot program comes just as residents deal with parking issues brought on by the opening of a large Brookside apartment complex at College and Ash, close to St. Joseph and St. James streets.
The city will meet with residents after the six months to discuss changes in the program and enforcement of parking for residents in North Village.
