Nursing Teams Searching for Families
JOPLIN - Two children and a father were found by a team of nurses who are touring through damage four days after an EF-5 tornado ripped through Joplin, killing more than 100 people. A 9-year-old and a 7 year-old were found with a parent inside a damaged house Thursday.
KOMU journalist Todd Tumminia interviewed a nurse coordinator who explained the children were directed to not answer the door while the parent inside was in the shower of their damaged home. There are teams of nurses walking through neighborhoods today looking for people who may need medical care. The coordinator says the children were rattled by the arrival of the nursing team and did not explain a parent was in the house. There was a short time when the team had thought the children were alone and needed to be reunited with a parent. After some clarification, the family was brought together without any difficulty.
