COLUMBIA - Columbia-based transportation program OATS is now able to give back to donors in the form of tax credits.

The program received an allocation of $15,000 from Missouri's Neighborhood Assistance Program. Donors can receive up to 50 percent of their donation back in the form of the tax credits.

Donations are expected to go toward the purchase of new buses in whatever community the donor chooses.

OATS Administrative Services Director Jill Stedem said donations are a way to give back to the community.

"When they make a donation to us it helps provide a bus for their community, and it helps provide rides for people in their own community who rely on transportation," Stedem said.

OATS provides transportation for people in rural areas, the elderly, and the disabled. OATS currently runs 75 buses in 11 Mid-Missouri counties.
