Officers Discover Marijuana Grow Operation
COLUMBIA — Officers dispatched to an apartment on North Eighth Friday in reference to a call, according to a press release from the Columbia Police Department.
The CPD officers contacted Brenner Dawson, 32, outside the residence upon arrival. Officers said they could smell the odor of fresh marijuana when Dawson opened the front door.
Authorities also observed marijuana buds in the living room and soon arrested Dawson as he asked the officers to turn off his stove.
Officials entered further into the residence to turn the stove off. They observed several marijuana plants growing in the residence. CPD secured the residence and obtained a search warrant.
The release stated that after the warrant was served, authorities found more than 70 marijuana plants along with equipment to grow and harvest the plants.
Psychedelic mushrooms and loose marijuana were also located and seized.
Officers arrested Dawson for two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance and one count of distribution/delivery/manufacture/produce of a controlled substance.
