Officials: Woman Who Died in Fire Was Rescuing Dog
ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis fire officials say a 41-year-old woman died after going into her burning home to save her dog.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the victim's family identified her as 41-year-old Janet Salsman. She died in the fire early Sunday at her home.
St. Louis Fire Department Capt. Dan Sutter said firefighters found Salsman and one of her two dogs together in the house. He says another dog had been removed from the house before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters carried the woman out of the home but she died later at a hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
