Ohio Man Arrested After Morning Assault, Robbery in Columbia
COLUMBIA - A 31-year-old Ohio man was arrested late Monday morning in Lafayette Co. after he ran out of gas along Interstate 70 in a car he stole during an early-morning assault and robbery in Columbia.
Jason Robert Davis, of Ashtabula, Ohio, is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, tampering with a witness, and tampering in the first degree. All five are felony charges.
The charges stem from an incident around 4 a.m. Monday in Columbia, when Columbia police officers were called to the 100 block of Redwood Rd. after neighbors heard a 49-year-old man yelling for help outside his home.
When officers arrived, they found the man with serious injuries to his head. He was sent by ambulance to a local hospital. The man told police he had been assaulted with a blunt object by a man he recently met.
Around 10:40 a.m., officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Lafayette Co. Sheriff's Department tracked down a vehicle Davis had stolen from the man he assaulted after it ran out of gas along I-70. Davis also had the man's cell phone on him when he was arrested.
$4,500 bonds have been set for each of the tampering charges, and the bonds for the other three charges will be set at Davis' arraignment.
