One Arrested in Sex Offender Verification Sweep
COLUMBIA - Sheriff's deputies and detectives spent most of the day Wednesday randomly searching addresses of registered sex offenders in Boone County to ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
Convicted sex offenders are required to register at the sheriff's department and provide their current address, employment and DNA information.
Approximately 70 residences were checked and most offenders were within compliance set forth by the terms of their registration. Some were found to be out of compliance and continuing investigation could lead to arrests.
John W. Key, 46, of Columbia was arrested on suspicion of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.
Key was released from the Boone County jail after posting a $4,500 bond.
