One Columbia Couple Makes it Big
COLUMBIA - Melissa McMillin and Jeremy Gebhardt have their fifteen minutes of fame.
They have a chance to get even more than that even though all they really want to do is just get married. The couple made it to the top four in NBC's Today Show wedding contest.
It all started when they submitted a video detailing their unique love story. McMillin and Gebhardt met at Rock Bridge high school through show choir. According to Jeremy, after "begging and pleading, she went on a date with him." The pair has been engaged for three years. McMillin said she cannot wait to be Mrs. Gebhardt. When asked to describe him, she could not help but smile and use the word "goofy" multiple times.
A unique love story...because Jeremy is in Afghanistan for the United States Air Force. Jeremy and Melissa send each other cards, pictures, and even drawings. The packages they send take about a week to get to each location. McMillin sends her fiance a package once a month.
McMillin says the distance is not so bad because "I've learned to communicate with someone and not have that physical aspect, so like, I, our communication skills have evolved and I feel like I know everything about him, more so than other people that are with each other every day."
