One injured after shooting on W Sexton Road
COLUMBIA - Police said a man was injured Tuesday after a shooting in the 200 block of West Sexton Road in Columbia.
Police responded to the shooting around noon. Public Information Officer Latisha Stroer with the Columbia Police Department said the shooter ran from inside his house to defend a woman who was being threatened by a man with a shovel.
Stroer said the victim approached the shooter with the shovel before he was shot.
Ariyan Talton was visiting her friend who lives on West Sexton and saw the whole scene play out in front of her.
"The people that were arguing came around front," said Talton. "An old man came out and popped two rounds for warning shots."
Talton said the victim and the woman weren't fighting, just arguing.
"He [the victim] came around back when he had his shovel and he started running this way," said Talton. "And that's when he popped three more shots and shot him in the back of the leg, left leg."
Stroer said the victim was taken to a hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
She said that while officers were questioning witnesses, there have been no arrests at this time.
