One person dies in Higbee house fire
HIGBEE - Randolph County Sheriff's deputies announced Friday a man is dead after a Thursday evening fire near a home in Higbee.
Firefighters responded to a call of a fire at 6:54 p.m. Thursday. They arrived on the scene to see a detached garage at 102 Burton Street engulfed in flames.
Firefighters said two men were at the home at the time. 55-year-old Mike Farmer died in the fire. A second man, 61-year-old Mike Coulson, a resident of the home, was injured and life flighted to University Hospital where he was listed in good condition.
Witnesses at the scene said the men were working on an automotive gas tank when the fire started.
Firefighters said the garage was a total loss. The Higbee Fire Department, the Hunstville Fire Department and the Randolph County North Eastern Fire District all responded to the call. The State Fire Marshall's Office and the Randolph County Sheriff's Office investigated the incident.
Investigators do not know the how much monetary damage was caused.
