One woman dead after fatal overnight crash in Boone County
COLUMBIA - An 18-year-old woman is dead after an overnight crash just north of Bear Creek early Sunday morning.
According to a press release from the Columbia Police Department, Elizabeth Upton was a passenger in the car with 27-year-old Bradley Gilman when the car hit a concrete curb and slid off the roadway, eventually going into a ditch.
Immediately after that, the vehicle flipped into the air and hit a utility pole, which broke the vehicle in two.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to an area hospital for life-threatening injuries.
Upton was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say she was wearing a seatbelt, but the driver was not.
Police say they do not know if speed, drugs, or alcohol contributed to the crash and they say the investigation is ongoing.
