LAKE OF THE OZARKS - The Missouri State Highway Patrol is taking part in a national drunk boating enforcement Friday through Sunday called "Operation Dry Water."

Since 2009, Operation Dry Water has been held the weekend prior to the Fourth of July Holiday.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the dangers brought about by operating a boat while intoxicated.

Since the start of the campaign, the percentage of boating fatalities with alcohol named as a contributing factor nationwide has decreased from 19 percent to 17 percent.

Throughout the campaign weekend, the patrol will be on the look out for intoxicated boaters throughout all of Missouri. Last year, officials made 20 arrests for boating while intoxicated.

Officials said it is also illegal to operate personal water crafts (PWC) such as WaveRunners and Jet Skis while intoxicated.
