Organizations Step Up for Missouri's First Day of School
COLUMBIA- Different organizations across Missouri stepped up their services Thursday to prepare for the first day of school.
The Columbia Police Department doubled the number of traffic officers on the road from three to six to secure the roads for students commuting to school.
Also, the Missouri News Service reported health professionals across the state are encouraging students to keep up with their immunizations this school year. Last year, only 56 percent of young students received all of their recommended vaccinations. More than half of Missouri children qualify for federally-funded immunizations. Some doctors warn that not keeping up with vaccinations could allow for a resurgence in disease.
