Osage River Collision Leaves Two Dead
OSAGE COUNTY - Curtis Libbert, 33, of Tebbetts, Mo. and Alvin Blackford, 46 of Russellville, Mo. died as a result of a collision between three boats in the Osage River at approximately 11:50 p.m. Saturday. Libbert was an occupant in an Ozark vessel, and Blackford was also a passenger in a Yamaha vessel. Both boats were anchored and tied to docks. A third Shoal vessel was traveling downstream, and it struck the bow of the Ozark vessel. The boat then powered over the Ozark and Yamaha vessels.
Christopher Winkler, 33, of Jefferson City was operating the Shoal vessel. According to the Water Patrol Division of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Winkler sustained minor injuries. The Osage County coroner pronounced both Libbert and Blackford dead at the scene. Neither of the men were wearing safety restraints.
Three other passengers in the Yamaha vessel with Blackford sustained moderate to serious injuries. The Shoal vessel is currently submerged in the river.
