LINCOLN, NE -- Despite improving their team score by two shots in the final round of the Doane College Invitational/NAIA National Preview, the William Woods University women's golf team couldn't make up any ground on tournament champions Lubbock Christian University, finishing second with a team total of 616 (309-307; +48). The Owls placed two individuals in the top five, however, as Myriam Hassan moved up one spot into a tie for third and Lindsey Johnson finished fifth.

Hassan matched her opening round 75 on the final day to hold steady as the field shuffled around her, finishing with a 150 (75-75; +8). Johnson, on the other hand, improved her second day score by three shots, carding a 151 (77-74; +9) to move up from a ninth-place tie.

Hassam and Johnson's scores were equal or better than the previous course record of 151 for a two-day event, but couldn't match the blistering pace of individual champion Sinae Montoya of Lubbock Christian. Montoya carded a 140 (74-66; -2), shooting the first below-par round at the course in a Doane College-hosted event, breaking her own course record of 74 from the opening round. The previous records (75 single-round, 151 two-day) were held by Brittany Hofer of the University of Sioux Falls.

Alex Ferrer posted a two-day card of 155 (76-79; +13) to claim a 10th-place tie in the event, with Jodie Peacock (Nottinghamshire, England) moving up to a 17th-place tie with a 160 (81-79; +18). Valerie Mielziner rounded out the William Woods contingent at the event, finishing tied for 35th with a 171 (85-86; +29) over 36 holes.

The Owls close out the fall portion of the season on October 1 and 2 with the WWU Fall Invitational. The two-day tournament will be held at Tanglewood Golf Club in Fulton, Missouri.
