Owls Hold Top Three Individual Spots After First Day of Action

TURTLECREEK TOWNSHIP, OH -- Julian Taylor charged from a seventh-place tie following the first round to take the top spot on the leaderboard after the first day's action in the Unaffiliated Grouping I Qualifying Tournament on Monday. The freshman carded a 4-under par 140 (72-68) to snatch the lead from teammate J.D. Nash. As a team, the Owls have led through both rounds of the tournament, with a team total of 577 (291-286; +1) and a 30-shot cushion.

Host school Daemen College sits in second place after carding a two-round total of 607 (302-305; +31). Hannibal-LaGrange sits one shot behind Daemen College following a two-round card of 608 (299-309; +32).

Nash, who is looking to return to the NAIA National Tournament for the fourth consecutive year, opened with a 3-under par 69 before carding an even-par 72 in the afternoon 18. Morgan Hough also posted an even round in the afternoon, finishing the day one shot back of Nash with a 142 (70-72; -2).

Bobby Mayer also moved up several spots in the afternoon round, jumping from 20th-T to 13th with a two-round card of 154 (80-74; +10). Chris Reinert rounded out the squad for the Owls, carding a 166 (86-80; +22) through 36 holes.

The Owls will look to hold off the field and advance to the NAIA National Tournament with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday. William Woods will be paired with Daemen College and AMC foes Hannibal-LaGrange, with the top two golfers beginning on hole 1 of the Lakeside nine. Seed three, four and five will open on the ninth, eighth and seventh tees of the Meadows nine respectively.
