Owls Use St. Louis Fall Classic to Tune Up for Championship
ST. LOUIS -- Corey Samples finished with the fourth-fastest time of any collegian at the St. Louis Fall Cross Country Classic, posting a mark of 26:10.5 in the event. The Owls did not compete as a team, sending only four runners to the event as a final tune-up for the AMC Championships.
Zach Bryant clocked a time of 27:53.6 over the 8K, with Brandon Buchanan posting a time of 28:35.2. Reid Schmit rounded out the runners for WWU with a time of 28:42.6.
Abby Baker posted a sub-19:00 5K to lead the William Woods University women's cross country team to a second-place finish at the St. Louis Fall Cross Country Classic on Saturday. Baker clocked a 18:55.6, the fastest collegiate time in the field and better than 20 seconds faster than the next college runner in the field. The Owls outpaced AMC foes Colubia College, Stephens College and Missouri Baptist University in the meet.
Lee Anna Sanders also finished in the top 10 of the college field, with a time of 19:44.9. Courtney Henderson was just 6.1 second off the pace of Sanders, finishing 14th with a time of 19:51.0 on the Forest Park course.
Amy Gangloff was also in the top 20, finishing 18th with a time of 20:16.9. Alex Apperson rounded out the team scoring for the Owls with a 24th-place time of 20:46.1, with Richelle Perkins clocking a time of 21:02.6, good for 28th.
Next up for the Owls is the American Midwest Conference Championship, hosted by William Woods University. The meet will be held on November 2nd at the Cole County Fairgrounds in Jefferson City, Missouri.
