COLUMBIA (AP) - The owner of a fire-damaged Columbia strip mall has pleaded guilty to failing to comply with city orders to demolish the property.
Mark Stevenson, the authorized agent for a limited-liability company that owns a strip mall that was damaged by fire in April 2012, pleaded guilty Monday in Boone County court to seven counts of failing to comply with orders from the city of Columbia to clean up and demolish the property.
The fire caused about $6.5 million in damages to stores and their inventory. No injuries were reported in the fire.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports the city is not expected to seek jail time for Stevenson, but would ask for the maximum penalty of a $500 fine for each count.
The next court date is Feb. 24.
