Pachyderm Club Hosts Mayor Bob McDavid
COLUMBIA - The Boone County Pachyderm Club, a Republican civic organization tries to make officials more accessible to the public. Tuesday night, Columbia mayor Bob McDavid spoke to the group at the Hy-Vee store on Nifong. He kept to local issues and the crowd did not expect him to talk about which party he tends to side with. Political Educational Chair Jennifer Bukowsky says the city should be happy they don't have to deal with party politics.
"I think that Columbia's really fortunate because somewhere along the way we decided to have our city positions be non-partisan."
McDavid says the city needs to increase its tax revenue to help pay for the city's police and fire departments along with infrastructure like the new parking garage on Sixth and Walnut.
