Pet-Flipping Scam Hits St. Louis Area
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Animal rights groups are warning of a scam called "pet-flipping" that is showing up in the St. Louis region.
KMOX Radio reports that people find or steal animals, then list them on social media under "found pets." The goal is to land quick cash, often to buy drugs.
Gale Frey of the rescue group Mutts-N-Stuff says some pet flippers are more direct. Frey says one flipper carrying a dog approached people outside a store, offering to sell the dog for $20 because she couldn't afford to feed it.
