Pet Food Recalls Affect Businesses
Besides affecting pet owners, the recalls are also having an effect on retailers. Local pet store owners say they're working hard to keep pets safe and healthy.
The recent recalls aren't really worrying pet food store owners, though, because they say the recall only affected a few brands they carry.
"So far none of the products that have been recalled have been products that we carry," said Kayvon Ashrafzadeh, Columbia Pet Center.
The recall hasn't had much of a financial effect, but worried pet owners have impacted business.
"It really hasn't affected our business economically but its taken alot of time with people coming in, phone calls, and those kinds of things because people are concerned about their pets," said Chuck Everitt, Award Pet Supply.
But just because the recalls aren't hurting local businesses, it doesn't mean the effects have not been present in Columbia. Horton Animal Hospital is taking lots of blood tests, but so far all have come back negative.
Store owners say pet owners shouldn't panic and just make sure that when shopping in the future, its for high quality and not low price. Customers can count on safe pet food now that the dangerous products are off the shelves.
