FULTON — A Fulton local notified the Fulton Police Department of an animal left in a car at the Walmart parking lot in Fulton Wednesday, July 4, 2012.

A pit bull puppy was located upon the officer's arrival. Another patron provided water and the puppy was taken to an air conditioned patrol car. The puppy was taken to an animal shelter for monitoring but it appears the puppy will recover.

Information will be provided to the Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney with the request for charges of animal abuse. The temperature in Fulton at the time was 101 degrees.

The Humane Society would like to remind everyone that a pet should never be left unattended in a parked car when the outside temperature is over 70 degrees, even with windows slightly open.
