Pettis Co. man guilty of murder in killing, dismembering case
LIBERTY - A Pettis County man pleaded guilty to first degree murder in a Clay County courtroom Friday. A judge sentenced 65-year-old Joseph Arbeiter to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Pettis County prosecutors charged Arbeiter with rape, attempted sodomy and unlawful use of a weapon in May in relation to the murder of Marshall resident Mandy Black.
The trial was moved from Pettis County to Clay County in July.
The Pettis County Sheriff's Department found Black's remains May 4, when deputies found her hands, arms and a leg in a storage container next to Arbeiter's trailer. A medical examiner later ruled Black's death was a homicide and took place several months before deputies found her remains.
