COLUMBIA - Several government offices will be unavailable Friday night when the City of Columbia shuts off their phones for a few hours.

The phone outage will start at midnight Friday and end at 6 a.m. Saturday.

Offices being affected are City Hall, Police, Fire Administration, the ARC and Parks Management, the power plant, and "outlying" buildings.

9-1-1, non-emergency public safety dispatch, and Water and Light emergency will not be affected.

The outage is being planned to help CenturyLink upgrade certain phone services.
