Pinkel Plans for Sun Bowl
"Now we gotta go get the Beavers," said head coach Pinkel "I haven't said that for a long time."
For Pinkel the game against a PAC-10 team is a return to his days as an assistant Coach at Washington, while with the Huskies.
Coach Pinkel went to the Sun Bowl twice.
"That's the great thing about bowls. We don't know a lot about them. They don't know a lot about us. In the next couple of weeks we'll figure that out real quick," explained Pinkel. "That's the beauty of bowls. you get great match ups."
A match-up of teams almost 2,000 miles apart. It's not just Mizzou against Oregon State but Big 12 against PAC 10.
"You could say bragging rights because they have some great talent out there in the PAC 10," said senior Derrick Harrington. "You see there record against the teams out there. You're playing a great team."
"We played an SEC team last year and it's always when you play in a bowl game who has the best conference," said Missouri safety David Overstreet. "People make that debate and argument all the time. We have to go out there and show that we can really play."
At the Independence Bowl last year Missouri beat South Carolina from the SEC.
Tigers want to repeat the outcome but not the 21 point hole.
"I don't want to fall that many points behind this year," said Pinkel. That's not a real good idea in my business."
Pinkel's teams have had mixed success at the Sun Bowl.
He beat Texas, but lost to Alabama.
