Plan Announced to Help Poor
Governor Blunt announced a plan to help the poor in Missouri stay warm this winter. Under an agreement with regulators and utility companies, reconnection fees will be waived and deposits suspended for people taking part in state and federal energy assistance programs. The provisions will apply from November through March. The Public Service Commission also already has a "cold weather rule." The rule shutoffs for nonpayment if temperatures are expected to drop below 32 degrees in the next day. It also lets low-income elderly and disabled customers make minimum payments and avoid disconnections during winter months.
