Plea entered in 2015 fatal Missouri shooting
FAUCETT, Mo. (AP) — A 36-year-old man has entered a plea to charges stemming from a 2015 shooting death in northwest Missouri.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports that Daron Simpson entered an Alford plea Monday to charges of second-degree murder and first-degree assault in Buchanan County Circuit Court. An Alford plea means a defendant does not admit guilt but concedes the evidence would lead to conviction.
Charges of burglary and armed criminal action were dismissed.
Authorities said Simpson broke into a Faucett home on Jan. 24, 2015, and shot Andrew Clary and Amanda Simpson, who was Daron Simpson's former wife. Clary died at the scene. Amanda Simpson suffered serious injuries.
Sentencing is in October.
