Police arrest man in connection to Range Line shooting
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Police Department said Monday it arrested a man in connection to a May 11 shooting that left one man injured.
Police said they arrested 33-year-old Anthony Wayne Hayes of Columbia after a traffic stop Saturday evening. The arrest came almost three weeks after a shooting on Range Line Street that left a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the stomach.
Officers said they pulled Hayes over on Blue Ridge Road Saturday evening because his front license plate was not displayed properly and his Range Rover had dark tinted windows. Officers said they discovered Hayes was driving with a suspended license and detained him. Officers said they located cocaine during a search of the vehicle.
Officers arrested Hayes on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance with a bond of $4,500 and a misdemeanor related to his suspended license with a bond set at $500. Hayes was later charged with armed criminal action and first-degree robbery in relation to the shooting. The bond on those charges had not been set Monday morning.
