Police Arrest Two for Coordinating Attempted Robbery Via Text
JEFFERSON CITY - Officers from the Jefferson City Police Department arrested two suspects Monday for attempting to rob four people watching a movie in an apartment on Lafayette Street.
Police officers took Charles Lowery, 43, and Kristie Meeks, 37, to the Cole County jail, where they face charges of first degree burglary and second degree assault.
According to the police department, the victims said they knew Meeks and she came to the apartment to watch a movie with them around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The victims said 15 minutes later, Lowery came in through the front door and started assaulting them with Meeks.
Police officers said the two struck the victims, threatened and demanded money from them, but they left with nothing. Officers said Lowery was armed with a folding knife, but never used it against the victims.
According to the department, the investigation revealed Meeks went to the house to act as if she wanted to watch a movie with them and planned the attempted robbery with Lowery via text.
Lowery and Meeks are from St. Louis, but were staying in Jefferson City.
