KNOB NOSTER (AP) - A fleeing driver and his two adolescent passengers died in a pre-dawn crash. Police said the chase began at 4:55 a.m. after a Knob Noster officer stopped 31-year-old Walter Rivers, of Warrensburg, for speeding on Missouri 23. The truck had been reported stolen May 11 in Warrensburg, and when the officer approached the vehicle, Rivers sped off. The officer followed the vehicle on Missouri 23 for about two miles before the driver apparently lost control as he crested a hill and struck a fence and a tree. Rivers, and passengers 13-year-old Stephen Hayes and 12-year-old Christian Lakey, were pronounced dead at the scene. Police said they found numerous stolen credit cards on River's body. Authorities did not immediately release the relationship between Rivers and the two boys. But police said Rivers lived at the same address as the older boy.
