Police ID victims of downtown St. Louis shooting
ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police have identified the two men shot to death downtown on Monday afternoon.
Twenty-four-year-old Jonathan Saddler and 22-year-old James Lane, both of St. Louis, were shot and killed at Fourth and Market streets while in an SUV carrying marijuana and suspected heroin. Police say the victims had been pursued by their attackers in a chase that began in the Soulard (SOO-lard) neighborhood.
Saddler died at the scene, while Lane was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The shooting near the Old Courthouse happened just a few blocks from Busch Stadium, several hours before the Cardinals hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers in a playoff game.
A third man in the SUV was shot in the ankle. The shooters in the second vehicle remained at large Tuesday.
