Police Identify Slain Burglary Suspect
BEVERLY HILLS, Mo. (AP)- The teenager shot and killed by an off-duty detective while allegedly trying to break into the detective's home has been identified.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/uSHDmz) reports that 16-year-old Jaleel Jackson of St. Louis was the burglar shot by the off-duty detective from Beverly Hills, a St. Louis suburb. A second burglar ran off. The case remains under investigation.
The shooting happened Tuesday night. The officer was not hurt and his name has not been released. He is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Police say the detective heard banging at the back door of his home and saw at least three people entering the house. The officer fired his personal weapon, hitting one suspect in the head.
