Police Investigate Series of Car Break-Ins
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis police are investigating another series of car break-ins at Forest Park.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that thieves targeted eight cars during daylight hours on Sunday. Stolen items included laptop computers and purses. Thieves broke windows or popped locks to get inside the vehicles.
Police Chief Sam Dotson says crime, including vehicle break-ins, is down at the park overall this year. Still, there have been several instances of mass break-ins this year.
Dotson says his plan to restructure policing districts will allow for more officers to be assigned to patrol Forest Park. Meanwhile, he says the department is working with the nonprofit Forest Park Forever to buy surveillance cameras and license plate readers that can scan plates to check for outstanding warrants or stolen vehicle reports.
