COLUMBIA - Someone posted sexually explicit material of around 10 underage girls on Facebook and Youtube, according to Columbia Police. Police believe some of those depicted in the images are Columbia Public School students.

Columbia Police Department spokesperson Jill Wieneke said police have launched an investigation into the incident.

School district spokesperson Michelle Baumstark said faculty and staff found out about a Facebook page on Sunday and alerted police.

Baumstark said none of the explicit material was taken on school property.

"This did not take place on campus, this did not take place during our school time, and so that is something important for people to realize that we don't allow social networking. Those sights are blocked within our campus," said Baumstark.

Baumstark said the school district blocks social networking sites like Facebook.

Police say the suspect used a fake account when posting the explicit material. However, Wieneke said the suspect is likely a student.

If found, the suspect could be charge with distributing child pornography. Police say the photos and videos show girls between the ages of 13 and 17.

The Mid-Missouri Internet Crimes Task Force is assisting with the investigation. A spokesperson from the group said it will be assisting the CPD with the technological aspect of the investigation.

"It is gonna be a very long process in terms of the investigation to get that information," said Wieneke.

The explicit material has since been removed from the internet. A spokesperson from Columbia Public Schools (CPS) said the school district is working to help police with the investigation.
