JEFFERSON CITY - Police said a Cole County man was arrested Monday after taking a box full of fireworks into a Jefferson City business and alluding that it contained a bomb.

Police said a witness told them 51-year-old Max Sturgis walked into Sunoco Plastics around 4 p.m. Monday and placed the box in an office then made derogatory comments about an employee and left the building.

Police said Sunoco was evacuated until police determined the package was safe. The package had fireworks and related materials, but was labeled as dynamite.

Police said they interviewed Sturgis, and took him into custody for a false bomb report.

He was taken to the Cole County Jail and charges were pending.
