Police: Man Involved in St. Louis Area Standoff Killed Himself
MARLBOROUGH (AP) - St. Louis County police say a standoff ended when a man holed up in an apartment killed himself.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the incident began Wednesday night when 66-year-old Joseph T. Consiglio of Marlborough pointed a gun at an officer during a traffic stop. Consiglio then sped away on his motorcycle. The officer was not hurt.
Police converged on Consiglio's apartment and called him on the phone. He refused to come out and said he had a gun.
Tactical operations officers eventually went inside and found that Consiglio dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The Post-Dispatch says court records show that Consiglio was to appear in court on Nov. 22 to plead guilty in a drunk-driving case.
