Police: No charges in accident that killed pedestrian
DEXTER (AP) - Police in southeastern Missouri's Dexter said no charges are expected against the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a pedestrian last weekend.
The Dexter Daily Statesman reports 36-year-old Terry Belcher died at the scene of the accident Saturday on U.S. 60.
Dexter police Detective Cory Mills said Belcher had just crossed the highway's eastbound lane on foot when a pickup truck hit him while it was passing a vehicle and traveling at the posted speed limit.
A police report said the driver stopped and tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate Belcher.
Police said the driver was given a sobriety and breath test at the scene, but he showed no signs of impairment.
It's unclear why Belcher was crossing the highway.
