Police say driver crashes stolen truck, sends two to hospital
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Police Department said officers arrested a 17-year-old Wednesday morning after he crashed a stolen vehicle into a Columbia duplex, sending two people to the hospital.
Officers said Kaylen Hayse evaded an officer late Tuesday night who attempted to pull him over for traffic violations and potentially driving a stolen vehicle. During the chase, the Columbia Police Department said he struck several parked vehicles.
Officers said then crashed the truck into the Kitty Hawk Apartments on Raleigh Drive. Officers said he took off running. Officers arrested him at Edenton Drive and Brown School Road. Ambulances took two people in the home to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The Columbia Police Department said around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night an officer saw a Dodge 1500 truck that he suspected could be a truck reported missing Monday.
Hayse faces charges for leaving the scene of an accident, multiple instances of assault and property damage. The Columbia Police Department said Hayse also had an outstanding warrant for felony property damage.
