COLUMBIA - Columbia police are searching for three suspects who robbed a man at gunpoint in his home just after midnight Friday morning.

Officers responded to a home invasion at the Aspen Heights apartment complex at 12:02 a.m. Friday.

A police investigation revealed the male victim, 20, heard a knock at the door and when he went to answer two males unlawfully entered the residence by pointing a handgun at the victim and demanding money.

Officers said a roommate upstairs heard the commotion and confronted the two suspects. The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money in an older model gray passenger car where a third suspect was waiting for them.

When officers responded to the area, they observed a gray four-door vehicle coming from the area of the lumber yard on Ponderosa at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to pursue the vehicle but the pursuit was terminated by the Sergeant on duty for safety reasons. It is unknown at this time if the vehicle was involved in the home invasion robbery.

Two other people were in the apartment during the home invasion. Nobody was injured during the robbery.

If anyone has any information about the incident, please contact the Columbia Police Department or Crime Stoppers at (573) 875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
