Police shoot, wound hatchet-wielding man in Missouri
PARIS (AP) — A suspect is hospitalized after being shot by a deputy sheriff in rural northeast Missouri.
The shooting happened just after midnight Friday in Paris, Missouri. The suspect, 39-year-old Kevin Marshall of Madison, is hospitalized with serious injuries.
The Moberly Monitor-Index reports that deputies responded to a report that a man was using a hatchet to try and break into a vehicle in the town of Madison. Deputies spotted the suspect and a chase began. The driver got away.
Around 1 a.m. Marshall was spotted at a Paris grocery store. Authorities say Marshall, still holding a hatchet, attacked a deputy inside the store, prompting another deputy and an officer from nearby Monroe City to fire. Marshall was struck at least twice.
The deputy who was attacked was treated for minor injuries.
